Momtographer 365 project

The goal of this blog is to take a picture each day of the year and see where it leads me. I'm doing this for myself as a journal of my journey with my kids over the year and also to force myself to learn to take better photos.

Day 138 5-31-11

Yum!  Kai kept pulling the leaves off my plants and sticking them in his mouth so when he grabbed for the lettuce this evening I thought "hey, why not?", so I let him chew on it (while monitoring him closely to make sure he didn't choke).  He thought it was great and chewed it most of the night, like a little cow!  I think it's funny he also has raspberry all over his clothes and face from the dinner that he decided to wear instead of eat.  Oh, Kai!  SS1/125 f/1.8 ISO100

Kellen's 1st birthday.  Here are several photos from Kellen's birthday party.  It was a beautiful day and we all had a wonderful time.  Enjoy the photos.

Day 133 5-26-11

Walking #2.  Something "clicked" with Kai today.  While he was walking well before he wouldn't really do it on his own (without us letting go of his hand).  Today he started doing just that and walking from one wall to the next and then back again just because he could.  Unfortunately this gave him some nasty battle wounds and he has two bumps and bruises on his forehead-ouchie!  Does this mean he'll be so tired he'll start sleeping through the night?!  HA!  SS1/100 f/1.8 ISO400.

Day 132 5-25-11

Cape.  Faster than a speeding bullet...nope, just faster than my shutter speed!  Got Pierce a cape so he ran around the house in it this evening with Joe.  SS1/125 f/2.2 ISO400

Day 130 5-23-11

Slithering.  The sidewalk chalk snake is slithering around the leaf on the driveway at dusk.  SS1/125 f/1.8 ISO400

Day 129 5-22-11

Joy.  Today we went to a party for Pierce's school to celebrate the end of the year and display all of the projects that the children have done.  The teachers also invited their music teacher (Mr. Marty).  All of the kids gathered around to sing and dance with him (including Joe and Kai).  These pictures are from afar and just a glimpse of the afternoon.  SS1/100 f/5.6 ISO100

Day 128 5-21-11

Sun!  It finally stopped raining and all that rain meant the lawn needed to be mowed.  Pierce loves mowing the lawn with Dad.  Kai and I enjoyed the weather too!  SS1/250 f/.3.2 ISO100

Day 127 5-20-11

Walking.  I know this isn't the best picture ever, but it's really hard to take a picture of Kai when he's walking!  He's still learning so I don't want to be too far away from him and he will also just start crawling toward me when I grab the camera (the reason he is not looking).  I'll keep trying, but this one of him standing was cute and momentous.  SS1/80 f/1.8 ISO400

More rain.  Is this why you dug this hole Leo?  SS1/250 f/1.8 ISO100

Day 125 5-18-11

Rain.  What happened to Colorado weather?  Are we pretending to be Seattle?  What's with this crazy weather?!!  What a rainy May!  SS1/100 f/1.8 ISO400

Day 123 5-16-11

Tracing.  Pierce is really into his workbooks these days.  He worked on mazes and numbers before going to school this morning and as soon as he got home.  I just love the concentration and pride.  SS1/80 f/1.8 ISO400.

Day 122 5-15-11

Went to Joe's parent's house for dinner tonight so I got some great pictures of the kids.  Thought I'd post a few today.
My official picture of the day.  These two cousins are just six weeks apart.  They are destined to be great friends!

Joe and Kellen got some play time in.
Kai and Kellen traded off tormenting each other.  Here Kai is pulling on Kellen's amber necklace while Kellen chews on Kai's rubber ducky!
 Walking to Tonia from Dad.
"Hey Pierce, you wanna take a break from that train and watch this movie with me?"

Day 121 5-14-11

Purple.  We convinced Pierce to wear a purple collared shirt today.  He is one picky kid when it comes to clothes.  He will only wear jeans sometimes, sweats other times, and t-shirts with pictures.  It's always an argument to get him to wear something even just a little nice.  I love the way he looks here.  His skin tone is just fantastic with this color of purple and he looks so nice in a collared shirt.  SS1/100 f/1.8 ISO800.

Day 120 5-13-11

Caught this picture of Pierce after school blowing a dandelion.  I was trying to get below him to minimize strange shadows under his eyes, etc., but he's still pretty side/back-lit.  His eyes look a little crossed here as he looks down the stalk, but still sweet and innocent.  SS1/320 f/2.5 ISO100

Day 119 5-12-11

Smile. Kai standing in his crib before bath. Working with very low light, basically putting myself and the camera as close to the lamp as possible, hence the shadow on the right half of his face. Still love the feel it has, like he's glowing. SS1/80 f/1.8 ISO 800

Day 118 5-11-11

Woof.  This is Mica at her best.  It was snowing this morning and really started coming down so Mica ran to the door and is pre-woof here.  I love how you can see her hot breath on the window and the cold white snow in the blur behind her.  She's just so cute here I had to choose this for today.  SS/10 f/1.8 ISO200.

Day 117 5-10-11

Playing.  It was all we had tonight to keep Kai from crying and whining.  Lucky for me I caught this picture of Dad and baby playing.  SS1/80 f/1.8 ISO800

Day 116 5-9-11

Ornery.  Had Kai's weight check today and he's doing great, up to 17lbs 8oz.  and back on a new curve (5% I think).  We had to wait a bit in the room for the doctor so here he is playing with a ball with just a diaper on.  He was in a very good mood and acting ornery.  SS1/80 f/1.8 ISO400

Day 115 5-8-11

Kites.  Happy Mother's Day!  Went up to the mountains for some kite flying in some open space.  It was a lovely Mother's day and Pierce and all the other kids really enjoyed flying the kites. SS1/500 f/4 ISO100
Kai enjoyed himself too!  SS1/320 f/4 ISO100

Day 114 5-7-11

Dragon.  Went to a walking mall today where there was a kite store because we are going to fly kites tomorrow.  Pierce could have cared less about the kites, but was quite distracted by the toy dragons we walked past instead.  I gave in and allowed him to pick one.  As we were walking to a few other stores he flew his dragon down the walkway making fantastic shadows.  Since shooting in full sun is so difficult I cheated/improvised and captured this instead.  SS1/500 f/2.2 ISO100

Day 113 5-6-11

POP!  We decided to play with Pierce's bubble gun this evening after pizza.  He thought it was great!  Going for backlighting here.  SS1/80 f/1.8 ISO200

Day 112 5-5-11

Bye!  Kai was playing with the baking soda from the cabinet (yes, we're at that stage) while Joe and Pierce were getting ready to leave for work/school.  Joe came by and gave Kai a kiss on the head before they left.  So sweet.  SS1/100 f/1.8 ISO400.

Day 110 5-3-11

Kai was a little sick today so that combined with his not wanting to eat recently I decided to stay with him. We went for a walk after a very long nap and I let him play in the grass while I took some picts.  This is what we came up with.  SS1/640 f/3.2 ISO100

Day 109 5-2-11

Solemn.  A white picket fence on my walk from my car to work.  It seemed so perfect in a not so perfect world.  Yesterday late the U.S. announced the killing of Bin Laden.  Since this 365 project is a journey of my year I felt it appropriate to add this to my thoughts.  I feel solemn about the whole thing.  I have absolutely no sympathy for the man, I would just rather sigh in relief than cheer.  SS1/200 f/2.2 ISO100
